Open Gym is for Halifax Circus current students and instructors to use the gym during set times to train and practice their skills. Instructors are on hand for safety reasons, but there is no formal instruction going on. Passes for this are $50 for 6 sessions.

 Handstands and Balance

Thursday 6:30PM - 8PM - Alex Smith

Handstands are the basis of acrobatic and physical circus training. This class works on building the balance and strength to maintain a handstand through flexibility, core work and strength training and will explore other solo balance postures and exercises. Let Alex's broad range of experience find the approach, knowledge and motivation you need to reach your handstand goals. Come be strong, centered and find balance in your life and your circus work.

 

Acrobatics - Level 1

Wednesday 6:30PM - 8PM - Kyle Scott

An introduction to the building blocks of acrobatics; handstands, bridges and cartwheels, and leads to the beginnings of front and back handsprings. This class is a great introduction to movement, regardless of your skill level.

Watch skills and fitness develop hand in hand under Kyle's instruction, assuming you’re not afraid of getting a little sweaty. 

 

Partner Acrobatics / Hand Balancing

Wednesday 8PM - 9:30PM  - Kyle Scott

No experience or partner required! This class in hand balancing focuses on partner acrobatics, with an emphasis on refining balance, creative movement and safety in partner work. Build skills in strength, balance and coordination while learning valuable communication skills. Come stack, stand, balance and occasionally end up in a heap on the floor. Fun skills and a couple of good laughs are guaranteed with this all levels class.

No experience required! In the first half of this hour-long class, students will explore different movement patterns on the floor using body weight exercises (their own and others'), with an emphasis on strength, co-ordination, spatial awareness, and balance. The second half of each class will focus on flexibility and muscle release in areas of the body including, but not limited to: back, shoulders, chest, hamstrings, and hips.

Perfect for those who are new to movement altogether, those who might be looking for a introduction to acrobatic-inspired movements and strength training, or for aerialists who wish to cross-train and improve their active flexibility. Get ready to see what your body and mind can achieve in a safe and supportive environment – and be ready to have fun!

 

LEVEL 2

Once students have mastered the building blocks of acrobatics, they are invited to advance to the intermediate class where they will focus on building combinations and continuing to build on the basic skills. Let Kyle's tough love bring your potential to life and fine tune your flips, jumps, rolls and twists.
